Top 10 Website Picks

Hiii! Below I've compiled a list of my top 10 website picks related to mental health and personality disorders. These sites are great resources to provide to clients who are looking to learn more about personality disorders outside of the therapy session.

Psychology Today
Psychology Today is a website dedicated to providing a wide variety of information on mental health, including information about personality disorders. I rate this site a 3 out 5 as it provides information, albeit limited, on personality disorders as well as links other sites that provide information that would be useful and helpful for clients seeking to learn more about their diagnosis outside of the therapy session.

Psych Central
This website provides a ton of information on the latest psychopharmacology, research and news in the mental health field, as well as information, articles and resources for Personality Disorders. I rate this site a 4 out of 5 as it provides loads of helpful information and resources for personality disorders that would be helpful to clients looking for self-help resources.

National Institute of Mental Health
The National Institute of Mental Health website is a great resource for research opportunities, outreach, educational resources and information on cutting edge drugs and treatments in the mental health field. I rate this site a 5 out of 5 stars as the information it provides on BPD and other personality disorders is comprehensive, accurate and easy to understand; which is a perfect combination to recommend to a client looking to do their own research on a PD diagnosis.

National Alliance on Mental Illness
The National Alliance on Mental Illness website is a great one in that it provides a broad spectrum of information on Personality Disorders not seen on other sites, such as, theoretical approaches appropriate for PD treatment, medication and medication management, and co-occurring disorders. I rate this site a 4 out of 5 stars for the level of comprehensiveness in the information provided, however, while useful for counselors some of the information provided may be above the heads of many clients looking to learn more about PDs, who may need to bring the information in to session to process if they have questions.

American Psychological Association
The American Psychological Association also provides information on a wide spectrum of mental illness topics, research and education information. I rate it a 4 out of 5 stars for clients as it provides resources for finding providers, suggested readings and articles related to PD’s.

Borderline Personality Disorder Resource Center
http://bpdresourcecenter.org/treatmentOptions.html
This website provides information, news, and resources for BPD. I rate this site a 5 out of 5 as it is dedicated solely to BPD and has a variety of information including symptoms, treatment options and personal stories from people with BPD. This site also has information for a 24 hours suicide crisis hotline which would be very useful for clients with BPD.

Mind: For Better Mental Health
This website provides information on mental health issues, including BPD. I rate this site a 3 out of 5 stars as it is educational and accurate in the information provided and provides helpful information for clients including information on types of treatment and support for BPD.

DBT Self help
This website is a great self-help resource that provides information and informal trainings on DBT from people who have undergone therapy and want to share their experiences and stories. I rate this website a 4 out of 5 stars as it is a great supplemental site for people with BPD going through DBT therapy or considering starting DBT. This site would be great for clients wanting to learn more about DBT and BPD from people who have been through the recovery process.

National Education Alliance: Borderline Personality Disorder
This website is the online Home for the National Education Alliance on BPD, an organization dedicated to raising awareness for, providing education on and promoting research and legislative acts in order to enhance the quality of life for people living with BPD. I rate this site 5 out of 5 stars, as it not only provides resources and education for BPD but also provides information for how to get involved, which would be a healthy way for clients with BPD to learn more about the disorder and how to advocate for themselves and others.

Mayo Clinic
This website provides medical information on a variety of physical and mental health disorders. I rate it a 2 out of 5 as it is not as comprehensive as some of my other top 10 picks and not as reliable as the other sources. However, it does provide information on treatment and mental health providers that could be of use to clients diagnosed with personality disorders.
